A Glimpse Inside HS²I: Our Core Assets
At the heart of HS²I are our state-of-the-art Simulation and Skills Labs. Equipped with high-fidelity manikins that mimic real-life patient responses, alongside various other specialised trainers and a fully equipped laparoscopic surgical skills centre, these facilities provide an immersive and safe space for students across Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Care Sciences to hone their practical skills. From complex surgical procedures to routine patient interactions, students can practise and perfect their skills before ever stepping into a real clinical setting.
Innovation extends to our Dental Simulation Laboratory, which is rapidly transitioning into a digitally integrated space. Soon, dental students will benefit from cutting-edge tools like Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and haptic feedback systems, offering an unparalleled level of realism and precision in their training.
Beyond discipline-specific labs, HS²I features a dedicated Living Lab
This unique space fosters truly transdisciplinary innovation, bringing together experts from health sciences, engineering, information technology, and social sciences. It’s a collaborative melting pot where new ideas are born, prototypes are developed, and real-world healthcare challenges are tackled through diverse perspectives.
Embracing the digital frontier, HS²I leverages immersive Extended Reality (XR) technologies. We’ve already fully deployed VR-based ECG training for large student cohorts, providing an engaging and effective way to master complex cardiac concepts. Plans are also underway for developing lab health and safety simulations, further enhancing practical learning in virtual environments.
Our commitment to innovation is also evident in our pioneering sensor deployment and digital twin pilot project. Using Internet of Things (IoT) technology, we’re exploring environmental and space utilisation analytics to optimise learning environments and resource management, ensuring HS²I operates at peak efficiency.
Finally, HS²I proudly incorporates the National Tissue Bank. This vital resource supports the regulated and ethical use of human remains for training and research, providing invaluable opportunities for deep anatomical and surgical understanding in a controlled and respectful environment.
